Madeleine Bessborough is one of the four specialist art advisors on the selection panel.
The New Art Centre was founded in 1958 by Madeleine Bessborough. The original gallery was located in Sloane Street, London. In 1994 it was relocated to Roche Court in Wiltshire, a nineteenth-century house in parkland. Together with the grounds, Roche Court is now used as a sculpture park and educational centre where work is shown inside and out providing a survey of sculpture for the enjoyment of the public. The New Art Centre represents various artists' estates including Barbara Hepworth, Kenneth Armitage and Ian Stephenson. The gallery is the venue for a changing programme of exhibitions.
Madeleine Bessborough started her Sloane Street Gallery in 1958 with the aim of helping talented young artists get established. In 1994, Bessborough moved the gallery to Roche Court and in 2001 set up the Roche Court Educational Trust which now has over 50 member schools from all over the south of England. Madeleine Bessborough has been on the Council and has been a Fellow of the Royal College of Art for 15 years. She also sits on the Council for Industrial Design, the judging panel of the Jerwood Foundation and the ceramic advisory panel to the Victoria & Albert Museum.
