LANDMARK LINK - WORKING WITH SCHOOLS
IN LANDMARK LINK, A PROGRAMME FUNDED BY THE PATRONS AND DEVELOPED BY FUTURE CREATIVE, FIVE SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN DARTFORD AND GRAVESHAM HAVE ADOPTED ONE OF THE FIVE SHORTLISTED ARTISTS AND ARE LEARNING ABOUT THEIR WORK IN CONTRAST TO THE OTHER FOUR PROPOSALS. THE TEACHERS AND YOUNG PEOPLE ARE PARTICIPATING IN WORKSHOPS LED BY FUTURE CREATIVE PRACTITIONERS, EXPLORING THE PROCESS OF COMMISSIONING, DESIGNING AND BUILDING ART IN THE PUBLIC REALM
The outcomes from the workshops were exhibited in the schools and a short film made which was presented to the Selection Panel immediately prior to the five artists' presentations in September. A £1000 bursary will be given to the schools in celebration of the winning proposal and with this, a joint celebration will be held for all the Young People involved from all five secondary schools.
Later phases of the programme will see the direct involvement of the winning artist as their chosen work is created and installed. The schools will also take on ambassadorial roles for the winning landmark within their wider community.
The five schools involved are :
- Swan Valley Community School
- Axton Chase School
- Northfleet Technology College
- Northfleet School
- St Johns RC Comprehensive School.
Future Creative
Future Creative is a new social enterprise company. Future Creative supports schools and young people in Kent and Medway, to develop more creative approaches to teaching and learning.
